Bagh Tola is a creation of passion and perseverence! It was never supposed to happen in the first instance!
We would like to share our Bagh Tola story for those who wish to partake in its future. You may skip this section and move straight to the FAQ's, but, who knows, you may glean more from the following monologue!
Mission Winter 2006: Save “threatened forests” in & around all National Parks.
Location, Jamunia Village, Baier Tehsil, Balaghat Distt, Madhya Pradesh:
Cars laden with eco-evangalists dotted the countryside of this once sleepy village called Jamunia. Suddenly a new species was seen prowling around with unusual nomenclatures; Landrovers, Pajero's, Scorpio's, Innova's and sometimes the all too familiar Mahindra Bolero! Each of this animal along with its conservation crew was off course totally “self-sufficient” (Equipped with a Bar-on-Board)
Evening conservation was the conversation, but, this rule did not apply to the Bar-on-Board. Theories were propounded, action plans created, debated and rubbished. Bon-homie and cheerful was the spirit, warm and romantic the moods and everyone left on a cheerful note to start conservation again the next day i.e. Buy the “best” piece of “real estate” and make it a forest.
Early 2007: Many an evenings later, and with an impeding summer that threatened the bonfire conferences, decisions were made. Large pieces of land were bought, conservation plans devised, “locals” empowered and the bonfire conservators moved back to their air-conditioned homes and offices.
2008-2009: World Economic Crisis, earthquakes, tsunami and other crises hit us all. Jamuniya and bonfire conferences became a distant romantic hobby. The locals however remained gainfully employed in conservation i.e. looking after the “real estate” and planting a lot of trees.
Four years, 58 acres, 04 monsoons, 1400 trees later and now the land has been regenerated, the lodge has been constructed and we are ready to walk the talk and talk the walk!
