A simple remedy for the heat and humidity of the plains of Kerala is a trip to the mountains of Thekkady. Shalimar Spice Garden Resort is located at a height of 800 meters at the edge of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The air here is relatively cool and life is simple. The straw covered cottages stand in the midst of bright green spice plantations that are surrounded with trees laden with mangoes, nutmeg and cardamom.
Falling Leaves is laid out with antique Kerala wooden furniture. The décor imparts a homely air to the place. The staff, easily accessible, works hard to please your palate. The chef conjures up excellent Italian, Continental, Indian and Kerala cuisine.

Unfortunately I was suffering with ‘Delhi Belly’ during my stay, which was nothing to do with the facilities of the hotel, the staff looked after me so well, especially Shirly and a lady from the Spa. My husband ate at the restaurant and said the food was great, breakfast was fresh and tasty. Rooms comfortable with plenty of character. Swimming pool well maintained with comfortable beds. We didn’t use the spa but we heard great comments from guests who had just had treatments. Would recommend staying here.
